Does anyone else sometimes struggle with having productive days, weeks, months?... I know I do. I'm a pretty organized person, but sometimes I'm not the most productive. I love to make lists so my "to-do's" are in order, but then the "to-do's" don't always get done... Anyhoo, through trial and error I have found a few things that work for me. Obviously these things aren't "foolproof", so they may not work 100% of the time. But I do think they help me to stay more productive.
I like list making, because it helps me to remember everything I need to get done. I find that I am far more productive if I make a list. That doesn't mean everything will get done, but it probably means more will get done. Some is better than none, right?
I have also started making lists in time frames. For example, "I want to get A,B,&C done before lunch and I want to get X,Y,&Z done before dinner". By doing this, I'm not limiting myself to say I need to finish this by 9am, this by 10am, this by 11 am, etc. I feel like it allows more freedom and flexibility. It also helps me to not be as disappointed in myself if I happen to not finish something "on time".
I know I will sometimes get disappointed if I don't finish anything and then it puts me on a cycle of being unproductive. Remember, if you don't get something finished it is not the end of the world. You can pick up where you left off.
2. Pick out clothes for the week
I know this one may sound a bit extravagant, but I can't tell you how many times I have overslept and then not been able to look/feel "cute" for the day ahead. I mean let's be real, we all feel better when we look good. So I have started picking out outfits for Monday-Friday on Sunday. This way I don't have to think so hard in the morning, because we all know that can be difficult.
3. Pack your lunch the night before!
If you take a lunch to school or work, pack it the night before. (I actually even pack my breakfast the night before, because I usually eat in the car...) It's so much easier than having to do it in the morning before you have to leave. At least it is for me. Y'all can probably tell by now that I'm not a morning person and I tend to sleep past my alarm... oops.
4. Set up a "no-phone time"
Setting up a "no phone time" will help you to be productive and stay connected by being unplugged. In today's society, it's easy to let technology, social media, Netflix, etc. take over our lives. I'm guilty. So set up a no phone time where you just relax, spend time with your spouse, or even get in God's word. I like my no phone time to be in the evening. This is something new my husband and I have started. We still struggle with it sometimes, but we're working on it.
5. Monthly action steps
Recently, I worked with Abigail Folds, who is a life coach. She helped me to set up action steps, which are basically goals. A lot of us set goals at the beginning of the year, but what if we consistently set up goals for ourselves? By setting up monthly goals, we are able to take smaller steps to the bigger picture. We can revisit our process and see what we need to work on and even readjust our goals. I feel like this is also a way to minimize disappointment in ourselves.
What are some action steps you can make this month? Write them down.
Another important point in goal making is to make sure those goals are realistic. If it isn't realistic, don't do it. Unless of course, God has told you to do it. Then, go on faith!
So there it is! Those are my 5 tips to productivity. If you have any other tips, be sure to share them in the comments! Thanks for reading.
Oh and since I have your attention, I want to share something real quick.
1. I have some great "weekly featured creatives" lined up for the coming months. If you don't know what that is, check out my "community" page. I want to encourage you to support those that I share on my blog, because this thing called life is a whole lot easier with community and support. ;)
2. I'm working on a devotional. I have the outline done, but I have to put it all together. By the looks of it right now, it will be a 10-day devotional for FREE! I will have a downloadable link on my blog when the time comes. So be on the look out for that. I will be announcing the release date soon. (When I know, you'll know. LOL)
Okay! Thats all for now. Thanks for reading! I would love to hear from you, so check out my contact page (link below) or follow me on Instagram! :)
