Exemplify means to be an example of something. It means you take on the very nature of it and become a representation of it.
We are called to be an example of Christ. To be a living representation of His life on earth.
I’m going to be real honest in this post. I’m currently writing this today (Sunday) after church. It was supposed to be posted live on the blog YESTERDAY. But it wasn’t, because I just didn’t know what to say that hasn’t been said before. I was feeling disappointed and burnt out.
But God always meets us where we are. He meets us on our hard days and on our good days. Today, He met me. He met me at a church service and convicted me and now I have something to say about exemplifying Christ.
I haven’t been doing the best job at exemplifying Christ. To exemplify Christ is taking on the very nature of who He is and we can’t do that without first KNOWING His nature. And to know His nature, we have to study His nature. (AKA spending time with Him through worship and reading His word.)
Now, I love worship and I love being in Gods presence. I love to listen to podcasts and hear others give good Word. I try to listen to a faith based podcast or worship music every morning as I’m getting ready. But I haven’t been doing a good job lately of getting in the Word for MYSELF. Instead, it’s like I’m relying on others to give me the good news and to give me new revelation, when really it’s my job.
Don’t get me wrong, we need people who are preaching the word and who are getting the good news out there. It’s vital that there are spirit-filled leaders in our lives. But that doesn’t mean we get to slack on our end. It doesn’t mean we get to let go of our personal time with God, because other people’s “quiet time” isn’t going to get us into heaven.
It’s up to us to learn about God and to grow daily in who we are through Him. If we are hearing things, but not applying them then it means nothing. There must be action behind what we hear. There must be action behind our own words.
I need to get back to a place of worship and prayer. I need to get back to a place where my time with God is priority over the things of this world.
So that’s my goal right now. My goal is to exemplify Christ by gaining a greater understanding of WHO He is. My goal is to grow in Him and be able to take on His character all of my days.
I challenge you to do the same. I challenge you to redirect your focus and become someone you can be proud of. Become someone who fears the Lord and lives in His love.
I don’t know what that looks like for you. I don’t exactly know what it looks like for me. All I know is things have to change if I am going to continue to be a disciple of Jesus. Things must change if we want to be a catalyst for the Kingdom.
